06/02/2026 - cemetery

Today I got my first digital camera.
It's an Olympus µ-mini Digital, a 4MP digital camera released in 2004.
After a quick very wholesome chat with the previous owner, I decided to go find the most interesting-looking place I could find in the vicinities as I could not resist using the newly acquired camera.
I remembered passing near an old church on the way to the purchase, so that's where I stopped.
As I parked the car I noticed a cemetery next to the church and that's where I took the fist pictures.

The camera is adorable to look at and lovely to use.
Although there isn't much parameters-wise in the camera itself, it still takes some practice getting used to the controls.

Olympus µ-mini Digital | 5.9mm f/3.5 1/30s ISO 80 This is the first image I took with the camera.
I was so much into the excitement of trying out the camera that I don't even remember taking this picture.
It's quite uninteresting.
Olympus µ-mini Digital | 5.9mm f/3.5 1/250s ISO 64 At the entrace of the cemetery stood this gothic looking pointed cross.
I love the contrast between the overcast sky and the subject in shadow, making it appear almost completely black.
Olympus µ-mini Digital | 11.5mm f/4.9 1/100s ISO 64 This was my favorite shot of the day.
I adore the vibrant green of the moss and the slight blueish undertones of the stone.

After coming back home and recharging the camera I went to pick up my fiancée from a work event.
I brought my camera along mostly for showing it to her, but I took the opportunity to take a few pictures.

Olympus µ-mini Digital | 11.5mm f/4.9 1/25s ISO 64 Although I don't usually love capturing modern technology I quite like this picture.
I wish I took it a bit higher up in order to get more of the sky.

At home I explored the settings of the camera and harrassed my pets with some flash photographs, altough none of them came out well.

Olympus µ-mini Digital | 11.5mm f/4.9 1/60s ISO 320 I also tortured my fiancée with a few pictures using the flash.
I particularly like the grain and colors of the first one.
The second one it made me feel like Ewelina is actually 50 years old, and the picture was found in an old dusty hard drive.

07/02/2026 - sunny forest

Today I woke up to a bright and sunny day, a rare occurance lately.
Since I've read that CCD sensors like a lot of light, I did not waste any time in the morning to go outside and shoot a few pictures.
After a quick breakfast I run down the stairs with Elijah and took a few pictures in our building's parking lot, altough I didn't like any of them.

Olympus µ-mini Digital | 11.5mm f/4.9 1/80s ISO 64 This one for instance I don't like because it's way too "perfect" and lacks any grain or imperfection.

After taking care of the appartment the sun was still out so we decided to go have a walk with Elijah in the forest.

Olympus µ-mini Digital | 9.3mm f/4.4 1/200s ISO 64 I took a picture of this house on the way to the forest.
I love the glowing reflection on the window and the sun on the dark bricks.
Olympus µ-mini Digital | 8.9mm f/4.3 1/160s ISO 64 I unwantedly had the flash turned to AUTO for this picture, however it created a very interesting texture on the sign, giving it a glittery look.
Olympus µ-mini Digital | 11.5mm f/4.9 1/60s ISO 320 This is my favorite shot of the day.
I am not really sure what draws me to this picture, but if I had to guess it would be the soft colors of the sun on the matte metal paint.

08/02/2026 - discoveries

Today I experimented a bit with the settings of the camera, specifically looking for those parameters that give the vintage look I love.
After coming home from the groceries shopping I took the equal pictures with two different ISO settings, first with 400 (the highest) then with 64 (the lowest).
From the viewfinder I could not really tell the difference, but when looking at the pictures on the PC I could really tell the difference.

Olympus µ-mini Digital | 11.5mm f/4.9 1/160s ISO 64 Here is the picture with ISO 64, it looks boring, flat and uninteresting.
Olympus µ-mini Digital | 11.5mm f/4.9 1/1000s ISO 400 And here is the picture with ISO 400, there is beatiful grain in the sky and roof that gives it an almost analog feel.
Also the colors look much nicer and warmer, especially the orange walls.
There is also a big difference in the shutter speed of the two images, which I am not sure how to control yet or its effect.
Olympus µ-mini Digital | 11.1 f/4.8 1/60s ISO 100 I took this picture on the way back from the forest.
It was very amusing to see the reflective strips light up with the flash, and in the picture they appear glowing red.
Olympus µ-mini Digital | 11.5 f/4.9 1/60s ISO 320 This is my favorite shot of the day.
I love the orange glow of the street lamp and its reflection on the wall.
